“I went to Zürich and saw a bunch of surfers” is not a sentence I expected to write when telling about our trip to Zürich. However, that is exactly what we found at Urban Surf when exploring the neigborhood around Zürich Hardbrücke. Urban Surf is a venue with an artificial surf wave pool in Zürich, close to hotspots such as Frau Gerolds Garten and the popular Josefwiese park.
Urban Surf is a nice place for surfers to keep their skills up while being away from the Ocean. The pool features a so-called endless wave and allows surfers to keep riding the waves for much longer. The venue opened in late 2016 and has been seeing expansions since, making this a fun place to visit even if you are not planning to get on a surf board.
Getting on a board yourself
Urban Surf has professional surfers as instructors, making it possible to give surfing a try even if you are not familiar with the sport yet. A 30 minuter session on the endless wave at Urban Surf costs CHF 57, which includes coaching and the renting of necessary equipment. You share these time slots with up to five other surfers.
Children up to 16 years old pay CHF 39 for a surfing session. Time slots can be booked in advance on the website of Urban Surf.

Not planning on getting on a surf board yourself during your Zürich city trip? That is no reason to skip Urban Surf entirely. The venue has a nice restaurant and large sundeck with a bar perfect for summer days. Here, the pool is the center stage and offers the perfect entertainment while sipping your drinks. It is fun to enjoy the weather at Urban Surf and see the surfers do tricks on the endless wave.
Due to its close proximity, you can easily combine visiting this surf venue with paying a visit to the Freitag flagship store and Frau Gerolds Garten. This area is hard to beat in terms of nice bars, especially during the summer.
