The city of Luzern is immensely popular with international tourists, and there are plenty of hotels in the city to cater for these visitors. Hotel Altstadt Krone is a three star hotel located in the old town of Luzern.
Luzern as a tourist destination
As we live in Luzern, we don’t get many opportunities to test out the hotels in town. However, when we first moved to Switzerland, we had a period of time before moving into our apartment. During this time, we tested out some hotels in Luzern and Altstadt Krone was a very pleasant surprise!
Hotel Altstadt Krone – perfect location
The location of the hotel is very hard to beat for a touristic visit – located in the old town, you have all the famous sights nearby. A walk to the famous chapel bridge takes only a few minutes, and walking to the lion monument and the lake won’t take much longer.
The exterior of Hotel Altstadt Krone definitely leaves an impression, as its beautifully decorated as many other facades on the Weinmarkt square where the hotel is located. The hotel has rooms both facing the Weinmarkt square as well as the street on the other side of the hotel. You should not worry too much about noise outside the hotel, as the old town of Luzern generally is very quiet at night.
The special room that made this hotel even better
When we checked into the hotel – we got asked if we had any problems with taking the room on the top floor. The elevator does not reach up to the top floor. While we maybe were a bit disgruntled at first – that soon disappeared as we made our way up. When we opened the door to our hotel room, we immediately saw the biggest benefit of this particular room: a huge private roof terrace! The roof terrace with lounge furniture faces north and gives a breathtaking view of the Museggmauer city wall. The access to this roof terrace definitely made our stay even more special!
The rooms of the hotel are decorated simple but nicely, and the bathroom have all the amenities one would expect. Additionally it was very nice to have both a Nespresso machine and a minibar fridge available on our room. As we stayed in the hotel for a longer time, it was perfect to be able to store food in our own fridge for breakfast and lunch.
In additional to double rooms, the Altstadt Krone hotel also has rooms for three or four persons staying together. The hotel has a restaurant on the ground floor, breakfast is also served in this area.
All in all, Hotel Altstadt Krone Luzern is a comfortable hotel for those visitors that want a central hotel to stay without paying an absurd amount of money on accomodation. Depending on the season, double rooms for this hotel cost between CHF 110 and CHF 220 a night.
