If you know a thing or two about the city of Luzern, you know that views in Luzern are often dominated by mountains and the lake Vierwaldstättersee. (The lake is often also called lake Lucerne in English, but I will use Vierwaldstättersee to not insult the other Swiss cantons bordering the lake.) With Vierwaldstättersee being close to everything in Luzern, it is no surprise the city has several lakeside bars that offer magnificent sunny days and lovely sunset views. But there is no such thing as too many lakeside bars and the Sunset Bar in Luzern is definitely worth writing about!
A bit off, but not too far!
As I already spoilered above, Sunset Bar Luzern is an outside bar in Luzern situated right by Vierwaldstättersee. The bar has amazing views over the lake, the inner city of Luzern, and mountain ranges including Pilatus. A magical view to enjoy while having a drink or a meal!
Luzern is well know as an incredibly compact city, meaning that everything is close especially in the central parts of the city. It is important to mention that Sunset Bar Luzern can feel a bit ‘off’ in that regard, but hear me out. The bar is reachable within 10 minutes by bus or bike from the central station, so in no way ‘far off’. There is a breathtaking lakeside walking path that takes you to the bar in about 45 minutes from the city center. Additionally, there are several hotels close by the bar, so it might be the perfect stop on your way ‘home!’
The bar is primarily open during the warmer months of the year. However, Sunset Bar Luzern also organizes a ‘winter bar’ when the weather is frosty. The bar is open rain or shine but might close earlier in case of bad weather. Considering this is an outside bar, you probably want to plan your visit during a relatively sunny day to get the most out of the ambiance and the views!
Drinks and delicious food
The bar naturally offers a wide range of drinks such as wine, beer, and cocktails. But Sunset Bar Luzern is also a nice food destination! The venue offers various grill specialties such as sausages and also has a dedicated ice cream stand. Apart from that, Sunset Bar Luzern partnered up with ‘Disco Pizza’ for delicious pizzas. Disco pizza is a popular pizza franchise in Luzern that also delivers pizzas around the city. The bar has several vegetarian and vegan food options.
How to get to Sunset Bar Luzern
As already mentioned above, it only takes a 10-minute bike ride from Luzern station to the Sunset Bar Luzern. There is a bus stop next to the bar, called Hotel Seeburg. From there, Bus 24 takes you to the station in about 10 minutes too. There are other bus stops nearby that require a short walk to reach the bar.
If you instead prefer to walk, that is, of course, possible too! The walk from the city center is very green and lovely.
The coolest way to reach the Sunset Bar Luzern is of course by boat. To make it even cooler, you can ‘cruise into’ the bar and order food and drinks from the website. Then, you can simply take your food and beverages on your trip on Vierwaldstättersee!
